St. Patrick’s Church is located right in Hudson County, located in Jersey City, NJ, and is on the NJ Historic Register. Built in 1868, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The church even appears in the HBO crime drama “The Sopranos” on four occasions.
The Keck Group was challenged to restore the pews while trying to maintain all of its historic presence, while simultaneously creating a more spacious and functioning seating plan (ex. making the new joiners out of extra pew ends).
All of these changes would make them more comfortable for today’s parishioners. This included removing the divider wall which negated walking through the pew from one end to the other. Additionally, the spacing was opened up so that the new Atwood Hamlin light-weight kneelers would operate properly.
Designing the re-dimensioned pews around the many columns was extremely tricky and took all of The Keck Group team to fit the them in the new layout. However, the client reaction to the finished work is what makes it all worth it.
Fr. Marc-Arthur Francios was full of compliments for the design work, the quality of the refinished pews,
and the close cooperation with The Keck Group’s removal and installation crews. He had many compliments during the fast-moving restoration such as: “Once again, many thanks for your elegant work. May God graciously and abundantly bless you, your loved ones, and your company”.
